Ronald Summers
Online Prankster

It all began one day in early spring, 2007. Dave (aka Ronald Summers) happened across an online poetry forum. The serious debate over the not-so-impressive poetry made a lasting impression – where else could you find the beautiful combination of outlandish eccentricity and unerring politeness other than a British, user-led internet forum?

This was a wealth of comedy that Dave felt deserved to be glorified, and displayed to the world – Ronald Summers was born. Using this pseudonym he wrote the most terrible poem he could think of and promptly posted it, then watched with glee as the serious responses rolled in.

This started the ball rolling and further pranks followed. Unfortunately Dave soon noticed that often as quickly as a prank was confessed, it was spotted by an internet-savvy (over-zealous) moderator and permanently deleted before it could be shared. Dave felt it crucial to document this wonderful humour before it was lost forever, hence the birth of ronaldsummers.com.

He abides by his own, self-imposed rules:

  • Never deliberately offend anybody
  • Never push the joke too far
  • Completely confess the truth at the end
  • Never reveal the name of the forum or the identities of those who respond.

Clearly posts cannot be made under the name “Ronald Summers”; one quick “Google” would reveal all and therefore a new pseudonym is used every time to evade being spotted.

Dave lists his influences as Robin Cooper, author of the excellent “Timewaster Letters”, Karl Pilkington, Dave Gorman and Dylan Moran.
