Hello there!
I must start by saying what a pleasure it is to have become a member of such a bizarre but interesting internet forum. My name is Ronald Summers and I stumbled upon this site while looking for information on reducing the size of my ears.
I want to begin by admitting that I know very little, if anything at all, about cosmetic surgery so please bear with me if I come across a little dim.
Ever since I can remember I have felt that if I could change anything about myself, it would be the size of my ears. As a child I was teased about the size of my ears. As a teenager I had bad dreams about my ears and in my adult life I regularly get comments about their size.
Sometimes I still find myself looking into the mirror wondering what it would be like to have normal human sized ears.
If my partner Joan knew I was on this website typing these things to complete strangers she would flip. She’s told me for as long as I can remember that there’s nothing wrong with my ears and that I don’t need to worry about them because she loves me just the way I am. Unfortunately while I understand that Joan probably would love me whatever their size, I wouldn’t be changing them for her, I would be changing them for me.
13 years ago after having realised that cosmetic surgery isn’t cheap I started putting aside and hiding a small amount of money every month in a box in the corner of our garage. Last night I made an excuse to pop outside for an hour or so and for the first time I opened the box and counted the money. To my amazement I had just over £542!
Now that I know I have some money to spend I felt it was the right time to start enquiring so if there is anybody out there kind enough to offer me a little advice, I would be eternally grateful. My initial questions are the following:
- I have known my GP for a long time and I don’t think I would feel comfortable with any other doctors. Would I be able to have the operation done at my local surgery?
- What sort of operation would £542 get me?
- I have never been particularly good with pain and have started worrying that maybe my ears would hurt after an operation of this sort. Is an ear reduction operation the sort of thing that may cause me discomfort?
- What would the doctor do with the parts of my ears that would be removed?
- Has anybody here had an operation of this sort or know of anyone that has? I would like to hear their thoughts on this.
I thank you in anticipation of any responses,

Hi there Ronald,
I had my ears pinned back a few years ago because the way they stuck through my hair really bothered me and I feel so much better and am really glad I had it done so yes I totally understand how your ears can bother you and if you have got the money then it will be a really good idea.

Hello Ronald,
Having surgery is always a risky option. You need to speak to a healthcare professional to get some of your answers.
If it’s really bothering you then a trip to your GP would be a good idea, sometimes these small procedures can be done on the NHS when the problem is affecting your wellbeing.
If you don’t want to go to your doctor then you could try having a look online, you might get some help.
HTH,
Sharon

Hello again,
Firstly I would like to suggest that to Ian that he re-read my initial post. Maybe then you will realise that the reason I am visiting this forum is in order to get help with my ears. Unless you’ve met me on a forum before, I don’t understand why you would think I also have a problem with my brain.
I find it difficult to understand text with no punctuation but I do want to thank Ally for your reply. As far as I can work out, it seems that your ears bothered you because they stuck through your hair. Because of this you had your ears pinned back a few years ago which made you feel so much better. You are glad you had it done and appear to understand how I must feel about my ears. You feel it would be a good idea for me to have they same procedure as long as I can afford it. Is this correct?
In my original post I stated that I would like to hear the thoughts of others who have had the procedure done already. Unfortunately it seems that you have not had a reduction in size of your ears but that they are merely pinned back.
I must say thank you to Sharon for your very informative reply. I feel silly to have saved so much money over these years now that I learn I can have the procedure done for free.
You mention I should speak to a healthcare professional. Can I ask you what exactly a healthcare professional is?

I suggested you had a problem with your brain as a joke! Based on your first post, it looks like you’re a wind-up-merchant!

Ronald, please don’t get your hopes up too quickly, I only said you MIGHT be able to get the procedure done on the NHS. You may still find you need to do this privately and therefore pay for it yourself.
I don’t mean to disappoint you but the amount of money you mention you’ve saved doesn’t sound like it would be enough!
To be perfectly honest I’ve never heard of ear-reduction surgery, but then I’d never heard anyone wanting to have their vagina cosmetically altered until recently so you never know! I think you should check out some cosmetic surgery websites, you could try here <link>, or here <link>.
And btw, a healthcare professional is someone who works in the healthcare industry – doctors, nurses, surgeons, chemists.. the list is endless.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for your reply. Having re-read your original post, I do appear to have misunderstood what you said. I think I may have got a little excited when I saw the letters NHS.
I can’t help but feel disappointed that you think £542 won’t be enough to get this procedure done privately; I personally felt it would be more than enough.
Thank you very much for the links to other websites you provided me with, I will most certainly make visits to these sites for more information.
Thank you also for providing me your definition of a healthcare professional. I did in fact already know what this was and only asked you to see what you said. It seemed funny at the time but now it doesn’t. I apologise if I wasted a few seconds of your time.
